The Sarah Burke Foundation is thrilled to introduce our 2021 Up & Coming Scholarship winners: Liam Gill and Caitlin Nash. Each athlete won $7,500.
Liam Gill is a 17-year-old slopestyle and halfpipe snowboarder from Calgary, Canada who rides with the Men’s National Halfpipe team. Liam is Dehcho Dene and a member of Liidlii Kue First Nation in Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories. He gives back to his community by mentoring and coaching younger athletes. Liam genuinely loves to be on snow and is thankful to be a part of the snowboard community. He has his sights set on the Beijing 2022 Olympics and we will be cheering him on. Congratulations, Liam!
Caitlin Nash is an 18-year-old luge athlete from Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. She started at age 7 when she discovered her love of speed and going fast, but it was the 2010 Vancouver Olympics that inspired her to compete. Caitlin competes in both singles and doubles and with her teammate, won silver at the first ever women’s doubles event at the 2020 Youth Olympic Games. She feels strongly about inspiring other female athletes and pushing for gender equality in sport. Caitlin, we wish you luck in this upcoming season and with your Olympic dreams.
